There is something about antique marriage certificates that speaks to me. Perhaps its because they are so beautifully designed or perhaps it's knowing that it's the day two people began their lives together.
Whatever the reason, I can never seem to pass up the opportunity to imagine what the bride and groom were wearing, what the ceremony must have been like, and what was awaiting the couple in their years together. This particular marriage certificate has a lot of detail and the colors have been well preserved.
Some information about the bride and groom
Franklin Marks Shiffer and Daisy May Killian were married in Ephrata, Lancaster County, Pennsylania on 3 Jul 1909. Ephrata was known as a resort and agricultural community. Frank was a produce dealer in Adamstown, Lancaster County, PA. Daisy worked in a Hosiery Mill.
They had one son, Charles who, according to his birth certificate, was born on Christmas day in 1909. From my research, it appears as though Charles went to college, listed his occupation as a Hatter in the 1940 census and married Fern Wolfgang.
Frank and Daisy's marriage certificate is in excellent condition and I would like to reunite this personal artifact with a direct descendant so it can be preserved for future generations.
Fun Fact - Adamstown, PA claims to be the antiques capital of the United States.
